Hi
I am currently working part time as a school cleaner. I only work 11.75 hours a week but it means "going out" each day as it is a daily position. It is each afternoon so i am "waiting" all day to go to work!
My OH works full time and both our kids have left home long ago(when they finished uni).
Anyhow, I do feel bored at home but really dont have the confidence to apply for much else as i am worried i couldnt cope with it!!I am only 44(LOL!!!) and I know i have several working years left(hopefully!!!)
I didnt work for several years when the kids were growing up
firstly i was on my own with them with no family around and then when i met OH he worked long hours so it didnt really work for me to get a job.
Anyhow, I have returned to college and got an IT certificate and part of an NVQ 2 in Business and Admin. Plus I have Maths and English O level from when i was at school.
I am now in a position to work more hours but really worry how i would cope. We could, ideally do with an extra £50 a week but with hubbies salary and my part time job we are doing ok and not struggling now as we were when the kids were at home.
I have seen a couple of office jobs recently that say experience is not essential.
Has anyone else not worked for years and then gone from a part time job to working full time.
There doesnt seem to be any part time office vacancies out there!!!
Thanks everyone x

Hi Gilly,
I don't have any experience of any of your issues but I'll wade in with some advice anyway lol!
How about doing some voluntary work in a charity shop? The hours should be part time, there is bound to be some paperwork/computer work involved for you to try your hand at and you will hopefully be with some nice altruistic people and you should build some confidence.
good luck
(We are not far away in age and 44 is NOT too old to start again)
