Suet Pudding

Hi peeps :hello:

Whenever I make a suet pudding when I come to take it out of the dish it always seems to stick  even though I grease the dish with butter, any suggestions please?

Grease the dish with Lard rather than butter, and give it light dusting of flour? Failing that, you could always line the dish with greaseproof paper. Not tried that - lard and flour works for me.

Oh dear I don't have any lard  I guess it'll have to be greaseproof paper then ;)

    Cheers Hawthorn

  • Oooh, I know it's cheeky but is there any way you could tell me how you make suet pudding? I love them and so does my DH, but I have no idea how to make them.

    Thank you :j

    Hi HM

8oz self raising flour, 4 oz suet, pinch salt, tsp parsley, mix with water until formed into a dough, then roll out to fit into a dish whatever size you have, I add a tsp of mustard powder.

We don't eat meat, so I put carrots and mushrooms into it, some time's I'll put leaks into it instead, you could use any root vegetable.

You can also make these with Margarine or butter, if you have no suet. Same ratio - half fat to flour. They are tasty with grated cheese added too. I like them as dumplings - plopped in the top of a stew, and left to cook!
