Of course, I eat egg custard tarts just for the nutmeg!!!!!!! Its good on mashed potato as well!

And ... it's the *only* way to eat .... mashed swede ;) Mashed swede just isn't the same without a dab of butter and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg! :naughty:

How funny that I should stumble across this particular thread ... we have Bread, Butter and Cheese Pud as a main course!!!! (Very moneysaving ;) )

When I was a child ... ANY leftover sandwiches would be made into a meal/pudding depending on the sandwich filling :o

Ham/cheese/fish/meat/paste/egg mayo sandwiches would be made into a savoury B&B pud. served with salad/hot veggies ...
Jam/mincemeat/marmalade/peanut butter/curd/etc., sandwiches would be made into a sweet B&B pud and served with custard - "Waste not, want not" being the adage of the time ;)

But, in my childhood .... left over Christmas Pudding would be reheated by .... frying thin slivers in hot butter  ;) I suppose based on the old adage: "A LITTLE of what you fancy, does you good LOL ;)

Panettone is reasonably priced in lidls i love it = it always tastes smells alcholic to me although theres nothing in there to make it alcy!

You can make B&B pud from *any* rich breads/cakes with excellent results (even with Stollen ;) ) ... and if the "alcoholic" aspect really dings your bell ...

.. one year, I won a competition to have a slap up meal at a very swank restaurant and on the menu was ...

B&B pud with ... Cointreau (sp?) oooooh, that was just ... FAB!!!!! ;)

Panettone is a firm fav. in our house ... thanks to Lidl :rotfl: ;)

  • Well, I ain't a nutmeg/swede virgin no more!!;)

Had my fish pie, gorgeous, tasted even better knowing the fish cost 40p, the onion was free and the potatoes pennies, Mr HQ loved it!
As for the swede - delish, can't believe I haven't had this before, i got some funny looks as the nutmeg come out, i think at first they thought they had an egg custard or rice pudding for dessert!

Well I may go to being a nutmeg swede hussy now!!!:snow_grin
Thanks for the tip Queenie, by the way wheres the best place to buy nutmeg, I like to grate my own but happy with the ground version as well!
