GTC = General Teaching Council? I guess your teacher reference number if not with GTC.

Congrats on a good interview. Hopefully it won't take long to get you something.

  • 'Evening George!
Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's my General Teaching Council reference number that I need. Apparently I should have received it by now (I didn't know they are supposed to send them out - I assumed it was something that happened when you join the workforce...) I think I'll contact my uni about it, they should be able to point me in the right direction.
How are you? Hope you're well!

Hi GTN. Hope you get that job. Remember if you are supply you won't get paid for holidays so it may be worth signing up with a few agencies for other types of work. If you have ever done bar work there may be some available over the Xmas hols and you could possibly squeeze in a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday at a shop.
    Hope this helps.
PS I'm still looking for the "Eat chocolate lose weight thread" as well, I blame Aldi and Lidl, their chocolate is gorgeous
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
  • Hi Tealady - maybe we need to start our own eat-chocolate-lose-weight thread!!:money:
I'm hoping that I'm sorted for the school holidays job-wise. I worked over the summer and the company have offered me a zero-hour contract so that I can work for them in the hols. December and January are their busiest months so hopefully I can get a good few hours in!
I made a few inquiries about registering with the GTC - apparently they can be v-e-r-y s-l-o-w with newly qualified teachers (but I think mid-October is a tad too long to wait!!) but hopefully it should be resolved with just a quick phone call.
I tested out my new cake tins - I made two cherry loaves and apple tray-bake (following an audit of my kitchen cupboard, I had a load of glace cherries to use up before the end of the month. And the apples were from my brother's garden!! :money:) The cake tins worked very well but I'll probably have to make more before I start teaching 'cos we've eaten most of it already!! Is making cakes really cost-effective?:o
I only spent money on teabags today - definitely an essential!! - I worked out I drink around 120 cups of tea a month! And my teabags were on offer too - Tetley's 80+40 free from Somerfield :D
I'm aiming for a spend free day tomorrow!! I could keep myself busy and start sorting out things to sell on eBay - free listings this weekend for items between 1p and 99p!! (I have no idea how to list stuff though :rotfl:!!)

  • Found out this morning that my uni have had problems with passing on data to the GTC (I think that means they forgot to do it ) but at least now I know that they're onto it - and hopefully I'll be allowed to teach soon!

  • Just called the GTC again and they STILL haven't heard from uni - I want to work!!!
I have 2 days at work this week and one day next week (office work - on reception) then a week off (that's half-term so I won't get any teaching work then) and back in the office for a full week after that.
I put LOADS of stuff on eBay over the weekend - free listings!! - and I've definitely sold 2 items, and a few people are watching some of my other stuff - so fingers crossed!
I bought my veggies for the week from the local market - £2.25. This would probably be double from Mr T's so I was quite pleased with that!
All I need now is a job...

  • STILL nothing from the GTC!! I want to work!!
Still, I've had a few days this week working for my other job, and looks like they want me to go in next week as well.
I haven't been keeping my spending diary for a while either. Naughty, I know. I MUST go and do that now.
I thought I was doing really well at the beginning of the week - getting my veggies from the market. It went downhill from there. My godmother came to visit on Tuesday and I spent £3 on storybooks for my non-existent teaching job (from a charity shop - so it could have been worse I suppose?) and I also bought a bottle of wine (totally unnecessary), a kid's dress-up outfit (£6 from Asda - again for school, they didn't have any in the charity shops) and a shirt for Nephew #1 to put away for Christmas (£6) - and I spent £6 in Morries because I didn't take my own lunch to work - and I was doing so well with that!!! Also, I spent £6 on a bottle of wine to put away for a Christmas present (it was half price)

and I put it all on my credit card... :shhh:

Bit of a disaster, really, this week.... BUT I'm back on the DFW wagon heading for RichVille

I did pay my MBNA credit card bill on time!! Now, must go and do that spending diary... :A

ETA - eBay sales are looking like £21!! Not bad for a first attempt but they are time-consuming to add on. I was hoping I'd have sold more items really...

  • I hate eBay with a PAASSION!!! WHY do they make it so complicated?? (I have 19 parcels to send off - it takes forever to sort out!!!)

I'm not greatly impressed with my eBay sales TBH, some people got some REALLY good bargains out of me (oh well, at least I have a little more space in my wardrobe now)

I'm annoyed with work as well - they asked me to go in for three hours today. I'm running a car on a 22 mile round-trip for little more that £6 an hour - next time the answer will be 'No' - they just don't think...
