    I think bailing out non-US investors is the whole point of this deal. ... The point of this bill IMHO is to keep foreigners on side.

    Well, using Enron-accounting won't do it. Look at this thread on the Democratic Underground Forum -

    http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3521891

    - the banks want to be able to value their assets (the ones that will be bailed out) at whatever they think they should be worth. Or in other words, to falsify their asset valuations. That USD 700bn won't go far.
    YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
    PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)

    I think you misread it.

    "Since 2007, the banks have had to value their mortgage-related assets at current market prices,"
    That as been the write downs.
  • I got given an Amiga 500 when I was 12, in 1990. Lovely (-:
    ...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

    The Amiga 500 was my first computer when I was about 4/5, also in 1990, and is the reason I am such a geek now :D
