I want a gas fire

I'm after a new gas fire and need to keep costs as low as possible.
Can anyone recommend any suppliers please.
Also, do the pebble ones give off the same heat as the coal-effect ones?
Thanks

i'm looking for one as well
are the flueless ones any good at giving heat or are they purely ornamental?Nice to save.0 -
It's best to go for a high efficiency inset gas fire as these typically have an efficiency of up to 89%. This means you get a lot more heat for your money & it isn't all disapearing up the chimney. A lot of the inset fires on the market, especially at the cheaper end commonly have an efficiency of around 40% so the majority of the heat you pay for disapears up the chimney.
The best way to work out what gas fire you are best to go for is to check out what the efficiency is. The higher it is the better. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

Flueless fires will generally give out a heat of around 2KW (about the same as a fan heater on an electric fire), they are all glass fronted and are mainly wall hung fires.
Although they are the most efficient gas fires at the moment (most manufacturers claim 100% efficiency, although that is a mixture of direct heat and heat contained within the emmissions of the fire), you will find that they all have to be installed with a permanently open wall/floor vent, which can in some cases bring a flow of cold/cooler air into the room.
If you are looking for a full fire and fireplace, and intend to place the fireplace against an outside wall (i.e not a partition wall or adjoining wall), then I would recommend going for an inset balanced flue, which although slightly less efficient are an awful lot more realistic to look at.
PS There is no difference in heat output between coals or pebbles on the same fire.0 -
I have been told by a gas fire supplier that Flueless are not so good for the following reasons;
You cannot have a flatscreen TV above.
Wallpaper does not stay on in the vacinity(due to moisture)
Do not put a mirror above etc.
You could have as much cold air coming into the room as hot air from the fire.
Anybody got anything to add.0
