3 mobile contract - distance selling cancellation

Hi I have in the last 24 hours started a new 3 mobile phone contract, and I am not happy with the handset, it is also faulty, i requested that i wanted to change the handset to a different model as i was not keen on it, they said they will exchange the faulty handset for a new replacement, but again i wanted to change it and they refused, I used the handset to make some calls, and now wonder if i have rights under the distance selling agreement to return the handset and cancel the contract ? I am prepared to pay for the few test calls i have made. Can anyone assist in this matter, as i need to do this i believe in 7 days to qualify, I also read somewhere that the agreement cant be cancelled if you have started your contract , and as i have made some calls is this the case ? Many Thanks David
