Engagement ring deals?

Anyone know of any good offers on engagement rings? Jewellery shops prices seem very high (student buying) - don't want Cubic zirc. just plain diamond/gold ring..
thanks

you'll find a lot of the indy jewlers will haggle with you, also if you go to any wedding fayres you'll often pick up vouchers. I managed to get a 15% voucher at one.

Ernest Jones currently has 25% off solitare diamond jewellery

Alternatively you can usually get a better deal through an independant jewellers

I'm a student too, and it's best to avoid the high-street jewellers. We've found this amazing local jeweller that offers 12-months at 0% interest, and all jewellers will haggle if you're willing to ask for a lower price.
Also, try and buy a diamond that's, say, 0.98ct rather than on that's 1.00ct as you'll save hundreds on it, even though they look the same size. Also, don't be tempted to listen to the jeweller about how the more expensive ring looks so much better; it only does when next to the cheaper one, and you won't even notice when wearing it.

    Hope this helps.

There's an excellent thread on the Special Occasions board with lots of advice.

I followed someone's suggestion and bought from the USA for far less than cost here. Chose my diamond, selected platinum band and once I paid it was sent to me by FedEx in a couple of days, unbelievably good service.

As well as shipping you pay VAT and tax totalling about 20% to FedEx once it gets to the UK.

There are a number of companies, I used one called whiteflash in Houston. Would be happy to give you more details if you PM me.

Hope it's okay to mention this - if you did choose whiteflash I can get a $100 referral. I can say they were excellent but I'm sure others like bluenile etc are equally good.

But this has no bearing on my view that buying from US is a wise way forward because of cheaper prices.

PS Also got wedding ring from whiteflash - we get married a week on Saturday.

    PPS I love mse!
