Champagne Specials - Buy a bottle for a tenner!

Hardy's Crest Pinot Noir can be had for a fiver a bottle on special offer in Tesco on occasion, normally 8 to 10 pounds.
Much nicer than bottom end champagnes, although for my money Veuve Cliquot is one of the few champagnes that are actually 'outstanding' compared to supermarket own brand.
Of the own brand bunch, Asda is the nicest.Just not as nice as Hardy's Crest Pinot Noir :beer:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Chriswil wrote:I might be wrong, but i'm sure I saw Champagne in M&S for £9.99 a bottle. According to their website Oudinot Champagne Bru is £69.99 for 6 bottles, so the price might have been correct.
Can anyone else confirm - I saw it in Newton Mearns, Glasgow at the tills...
It's definitely reduced , or was the last time I was in M&S. I don't think it was £9.99 though , possibly £13.99 , although i'm not 100% sure. I'm not a big fan of champers , but I like that one , although it has to be the medium dry as i've got a sweet tooth
I must try the Asda one sometime.
(I've fond memories of Newton Mearns , or at least someone who lived there
) Same old same old since 20080 -
We had a blind tasting at a company function, which I organised . Our Financial Director was always going on about how he loved Veuve Cliquot and that it was the best and had a distinctive taste. We had 2 champagnes (1VeuveC & 1 Tesco Brut ) 1, Cava, 1NZ Sparkling (Montana) 1 French Sparkling (Cremant de Bourgogne) 1 Aussie Sparkling (Green Point). The top vote went to the Montana, the VeuveC was 4th !! The FD failed miserably and also selected the Montana as his No.1!!ailuro2 wrote:Hardy's Crest Pinot Noir can be had for a fiver a bottle on special offer in Tesco on occasion, normally 8 to 10 pounds.

On the strength of that I used Montana for my next personal family birthday, and all the guests loved it !! Veuve C is a good champagne though, but out of interest why not organise a blind tasting yourselves, it is good fun !!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

All of these tastings seem to me to miss the vital point that you don't buy Champers for the taste, you buy it for the quality of the buzz. This is why there is a market for the quality Champagnes, IMO. Yes, Tesco Brut Reserve may do consistently well in newspaper tastings, but the effects after drinking a bottle are much more ordinary than the high you get from a bottle of Bollinger for lunch.Wins - 2004: Nothing, 2005: Zip, 2006: Nil, 2007: Zero, 2008: Naught, 2009: You get the picture0

Tesco are doing 6 for £56.95 (about £9.50 a bottle) i have had this before and for the money it is not bad.0

Somerfield are doing "Jaquart vintage champagne" for £14.99 down from £29.99.0

The quality of the "buzz" often depends on your own mood, the occasion and the company you're in ! Tesco's Premier Cru gold medal win was not in a newspaper tasting, but the International Wine Challenge, probably the most prestigious. It has to be good to win this, and if it doesn't taste right. then the "buzz" wouldn't happen anyway. But we are getting away from the point of this website, which is money saving, and if you would rather drink champagne than Asda sparkling wine, you pays your money and takes your choice!!.spammeplease wrote:All of these tastings seem to me to miss the vital point that you don't buy Champers for the taste, you buy it for the quality of the buzz."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
