Two DMP?

Hi there was just wondering if anyone knew the answer to this. My husband and I have various debts, some in his name some in mine. Would we beable to do one DMP or would we have to do two?

Also I have a debt from 5 years ago that i pay through a debt collection agency would i have to add that to the new DMP? Didnt know if I would beable to start over with them, dont know if that would break some kind of agreement/commitment with them?

Many thanks in advance.

  • Hi, my wife and I are in the same situation and you can do one joint DMP, or even two single ones.

Regards the outstanding agreement that will be covered by the new DMP as it is part of your overall circumstances. also it may void the DMP if not declared

    Hi MummyOnAMission

Apples101 is correct. A DMP can be done joint or individually. Sometimes it is better to do a joint DMP as you can look at the full household budget and it helps to make sense of things rather than trying to separate bills and costs etc.

If you started a new repayment offer you would normally provide them with a new budget, and list of creditors with offers of repayment to show them so they are aware of how your situation is now been dealt with.

If you would like to have at both options you can use our online advice system Debt Remedy. It would assist you in completing a financial statement and you would be provided with tailored advice on the best way to deal with your situation. Click here to go directly to Debt Remedy. You can put in both different scenarios of joint and single to see what the best options are for you both.

Or you would prefer to talk to a debt counsellor about your situation you can book a telephone based appointment by calling our helpline free on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00.

  • Many thanks for all your replies.

Yes might give CCCS a call then, we tried the debt remedy online but my husband is Self Employed so it said we have to call and speak to someone.

    Thankyou again.
