Hi all, I've returned to MSE after a lengthy enough absence during which I *thought* I had managed to sort my debt out. I was wrong.
I'm about to take a call from CCCS in about 45 minutes to start all over again, so wish me luck with that - my circumstances have changed a lot since I was last in touch with them so I'm hoping that this time they'll offer me a DMP instead of suggesting bankruptcy - I've done my maths and I have more disposable income these days, certainly enough to cover a DMP.
Here's the thing. Last time I called them, I was in a much bigger mess than I am now, and I had much less money. So they naturally suggested bankruptcy, and I ran screaming in the opposite direction, ending up with a DMP through a company named Daniel Chandler. It seemed reasonable enough in the beginning - it was affordable and it made me feel better that I didn't have to go bankrupt. Then, month by month, I began to feel more and more suspicious. I've since learned that my creditors have not been paid on time and basically my efforts earlier this year were totally wasted. So, I've decided to start from scratch all over again.
I've quit smoking, which has saved me a lot of money and I seriously recommend it to any smoker, lol - if anyone wants any pointers on how I managed it please feel free to message me. I got rid of some unnecessary bills, such as Sky etc, and I taught myself how to budget shop for groceries. I also managed to change my car and switched the finance from my name to my dad's so all I'm doing is paying him the money rather than being officially tied with the debt. That also saved me tons as my old car was a wreck and kept breaking down, costing a lot of money. Ironically enough the monthly payment is exactly the same as my old car, but my new one is fantastic and runs like a dream lol.
I've also started at the very beginning again using this site, listing all my incomings and outgoings and brutally examining every penny that I spend. So far things are going pretty well actually, except for a couple of bills I have due which I'm able to pay in full tomorrow. I've been advised by CCCS not to pay my current DMP as I'll be coming off it, so once I chat to them this afternoon I'll be totally straight on what's happening, and I can finally sleep easy.
So I guess I just wanted to say to any newbies out there that things can and will be dealt with - but you have to be brave and stick with the advice you're given here, as I learned. Don't run away, because things will only come back to haunt you again and you'll be back at square one, no better off and even more stressed out. I'd advise anyone to please, please avoid any debt management plan company who take any kind of fee or percentage - it really is better to just bite the bullet and take the advice of CCCS. It's free, and that's what they're there for. As long as you're completely honest with them, they will offer you the best solution possible.
I'm sorry for abandoning you MSE, I'll never stray again!! Lol.
