Bails, about your Mil, I am trying to (stress on the word trying ) adopt an attitude for year 2009: Would I rather be right or happy? I am sure you know what I mean. Some people just can't be changed and we are only wasteing our own energy by trying to do so.

Talking about the parents generation here. My mum got a lump sum pension up front and tax man took huge sum off it and didn't consider that it was meant for several years. She complained and was unsuccessful, I just got an email from her. She is living with such a small amount of money and this is outrageous. Unfortunately I am completely out of date with all the tax laws relating to Finland so I can't help and my brother (who is a partner in one of the big fives) is just raising his shoulders. Now I feel I should be able to do something.

Anyway, DD is catching up her sleep so I will enjoy the quiet as long as it lasts. Fifth NSD on the row planned here. Will need to go to the post office to send couple of sold books later thou but will leave purse home just to be on the safe side :D.

    Have a great day everybody!!

    Marru

  • Is this a joke or what?
I've just got a credit card statement. Now, this is the card which is advertised with the guy just climbing into his own little plastic water chute and being whizzed along through the city, everything happening in a flash, so easy, so quick....like magic....anyway, what with the card being new, and with it being Xmas and all, I forgot to set up the DD and I've missed a payment - sheer forgetfulness, I could kick myself  . As you'd expect, they were every bit as quick in letting me know as that ride in the water chute....oh, yes, they were greased lightning....so I rang up today to set up the DD and I was told it will take up to 6 weeks. I can't decide if my reaction is :eek::eek::eek: or:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:although there's also a fair bit of :mad::mad::mad:. Obviously the DD's don't go by water chute, or even computer. Do you think they send them through a jungle via a boy with a forked stick?

A cynical person ( not me obviously ) might suspect that card companies get to charge more fines for missed payments when it takes so long to set up a DD......

Indeed Marru, indeed and great to be reminded of that fact. I have no desire to change her, I would just rather not be judged (but then that would involve changing her :rotfl:). I actually feel sorry for her narrowmindedness and 'stuckness'.

Things like that annoy me too Redglass, it's amazing how things can be done immediately if you're 'in the wrong or owing money' but the other way round and African time kicks in

I'm sure it's long passed but I was wondering if the WH Smith offer SM mentioned might still be on, and if so could someone point me in the vague direction please? OH got a £10 voucher for there for Christmas - he never really shops there and I'd be a nightmare if let loose in there ;) - so I was thinking of getting MiL's b'day pressie there in the sales - wouldn't she be so proud if she knew? :rotfl:

  • SM - finally sorted a few photos before this forum ends for th year.
Below are two of my mosaic projects so far. Dispite my best efforts they still seem very large photos, sorry:o :
The first one is a little blurred: it's a large coaster/hot dish mat I made for my mum
EDIT: removed by bb before forum closed.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • And these are the first ever biscuits I made as a gift: thanks sm:D (they are sitting on a giant wrapped candle not a HM cheese..

  • BB well impressed with your "handmade" stuff - prefer that to "homemade";) . Intend to make a start on my bathroom storage drawers this week:D Marru treated me to a great book about mosaic for xmas:A so have a better idea now where to start.

Really love the fish design:T :T How did you get the coloured grout ? can you buy it already with the colour in or do you have to mix it?

You really do learn all sorts of stuff on this thread:j

I have £25 left in this years budget which I intend to spend before end of year, but would like to buy something that will help in next years challenge - any suggestions folks????

I don't think there are any kitchen gadgets that I do not already have:o , am stocked up with food, pressies, cards, wrapping paper, and toiletries, sprouter is on its way:p and have lots of seeds ready to plant - stuck for ideas - anything obvious I have missed:confused::confused:

How about beans etc to use in your sprouter?

Mmm suppose I could get some extra stocks in just for that, already have lots in stockpile to pinch but extra would come in handy if we are going to sprout regularly:D
