  • Glad to report that they behaved well in asda after I threatened not to give them a lift home if they misbehaved:p .
Arrived as they were reducing the veg and picked up two large bags of sliced leeks and mixed greens, 2 bags of chopped carrot and swede, two bags of ready to roast parsnips, pack of whole leeks,3 heads of broccoli, and some onions.Total £1.40:j Also got some packs of garlic bread slices for 20p each.:D

Need to decide what to do with the turkey now and include these veggies, will be making more stilton soup too with the broccoli;)
    Reduce,re-use, recycle.

  • Good morning frunchkins:D

Cooked the turkey last night, and had a slowcooker full of veggies, chickpeaas etc cooking in slowcooker overnight which will be turned into turkey casserole later and also a couple of turkey and veg pies.
Made a batch of stilton and broccoli soup this morning too.
need to pick up some potatoes from market today so I can do some root mash for freezer with one lot of carrot/swede and parsnips , and a batch of split pea and roasted parsnip soup.
OH wants some turkey curries and rice doing for work takeouts, so that will just leave one bag of spring greens and leeks to make use of, will have a think what to do with that later.Perhaps pick up some more broccoli and some cauli and make a veg gratin for tea tonight:confused:
Batch cooking day is the one time you will ever see my kitchen looking like a bomb site:eek: but it's worth it when you have lots and lots of little foil dishes full of lovely home made stuff to pop in freezer - very satisfying - especially when it is made from free food and reduced veggies:j :j :j

Enjoy the day everyone, see you later.:D

shame you arent near me JANEY51- my lot drink enough milk to sink the titanic - we use over 15 litres a week! All goes on cereals/coffees and kids milk shakes etc. Need to find a way of cutting that down for starters.
Someone mentioned uht milk a day or two ago. Here i am paying 74p a litre for ss milk - is there anywhere cheaper?

Hubby asked me what i was doing last night fiddlig around with all the bills and receipts i could find. Explained itwas to find out what we spent on this and that- His eyes rolled to the ceiling in a ' here she goes again ' type expression!!! Then he said he agreed with what im trying to do and would help with what he could. Later he came back saying that apart from his petrol could i just give him pocket money every week so that he knew exactly what he could spend without interfering with my budget. At first i thought whimp and cop out, but then i thought it sweet as he probably 'Scared' i might get upset if he gets it wrong. ( i must be an ogre!) Does anyone else do this ?

off to work but willl pop back later
    bye
We do this, I deal with and pay all the bills from the household pot, and DH gets pocket money for his beer etc.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

me too -- and considering I've done minimal housework for the last 12 years (since DH stopped helping with it, even though we both worked full-time) the amount I have is more than a tad worring.... Still. it'll come in handy this year as I need to blitz the place (otherwise I've no chance of passing any child-minder inspections ;) )

My house still has a garage, loft and two bedrooms full of boxes from moving in too and we moved in at the end of May 2002!!
We moved here in Nov 2000 and we still have boxes piled up in the loft and shed from moving in.

We obviously don't really need any of this stuff, haven't touched them since moving here, but I know that some bits are my Mums and i don't want to just throw these out.

I think 2009 will be a sorting out year!!!

I have stuff in mine that at times I've been desperate to find/use -- but I have at least stopped myself buying a replacement while I know I have whatever it is, which is more than I thought I'd be able to do !!!

Time in marching one and I'm still holding out from spending the last dregs of my 2008 udget, miniscule as it may be.

Sophiesmum, you are so, so lucky that you are able to pick up so many bargains, something like that is utterly impossible when you live in the country as there's so little choice for where to buy groceries. The sooner I can get mine all growing, the better.

Last night, I decided to attempt to discover the identity of our night time visitor to the garden, as I'm not convinced that Mr Hedgehog could eat the entire contents of the bowl I use. So, after having had a clear out of the fridge, using up what had to be eaten in a mish mash of meals, I ended up with a scraping of pat!, a few strands of left over spaghetti with remains of bolognese sauce and a full tin (nobody liked them!) of sardines in tomato sauce. I went out about 9pm with the dish and sat it tight in front of the livingroom window, so I could watch later. Came back in, went and made a cuppa, sat down, peeked out the curtains and BLOW ME! Whatever it is had already been and scoffed the lot, bowl licked completely clean! NO WAY was that Mr Hedgehog! It had to have been either a brave Mr Fox, or else the invisible, mystery cat! I can't believe I missed it! My frugal funtime foiled again!

Planning a quick trip into town tomorrow to pick up some veggies and milk and then it's all wagons ho for the madness that we call Christmas. I have about £69 left of my annual budget, but will need about £50 of that for electricity to see me through to new year, so I haven't much to 'play' with, but will try my best not to over spend. :rotfl:

HS is outside playing with all his new toys - Amaz0n have a half price sale on powertools, so he spent £50 on 2 boxloads of stuff and is now out in the garage playing with the mysterious flat packs that have been arriving from varous sources. My 'PRIZE BUY' with the remnants of my cashback fund should be assembled soon and then I'll be all set to face the springtime. :D I'll be right back, just as soon as I have copied out the last line of my actual (as opposed to challenge) spreadsheet, and then I'll know just how much I am up this year against last year.
