Not heard that one before

Would have thought a straight jacket more appropriate

  • Nyk, having worked in London for a month I totally agree that cities are too big. People used to think I was very strange for spending an hour walking somewhere, just because it was a nice day and I didn't want to cram myself onto the tube if I could avoid it. However moving from London to North Yorkshire quite literally in the middle of nowhere I realised I needed a few more urban bits and pieces - not having a pub or shop within walking distance was a bit too isolated for me! Edge of Swindon isn't too bad, it's easy to get into the countryside but shops aren't too far away.

Try it, tie a knot on top of his back so it doesn't hang too much. It gives him different kind of sensation of himself and has in several occasions made a big difference.

I am trying to make a post but get distracted constantly, will be back later...

Thanks Marru..... will have a quick look and see if I can find one I don't mind ruining -- especially as the fireworks (and the dog) have just kicked off !!!!

Used Rescue Remedy last year (OK'd by the vet after it was suggested by a friend) which worked with some success. Did plan to use diffuser things this year (highly recommended by vet), but as we can't shut several doors in the house -- partly so the dogs have enough roaming room, and partly to I can hear if DH needs assistance -- we'd have needed half a dozen, which made the cost prohibitive

Another perspective on the Freecycle stuff: some people really HATE it when people put the reason why they would like the item, as they feel it's pulling at heartstrings/emotional/begging etc! Some like the message to be short and sweet, some like to know the reason, some do first come first served, some wait til they've had all the replies and then choose someone etc etc etc. Everyone seems to have different preferences, and you can't please everyone. Just give the item to the reply you like most - for my OH that would be the shortest and quickest reply; for me it would be the reason I most liked (perhaps it's a man/woman thing?). One thing I would say is that there are a lot of people like Marru who get the Daily Digest and so can't reply immediately - on our Freecycle we have a 'fair chance policy' where you can let people know you'll wait a reasonable time before deciding who to pass your things onto (so everyone gets a fair chance to ask for it).
The reason I hate London is elbows - I don't know how I've managed to restrain myself from decking some people on occasion! My OH and especially his parents are complete Londonphiles - recently we were out and they said, in all seriousness, 'you can't get a decent cappucino outside of London':mad: When I protested they conceded with 'okay, cappucinos get steadily worse the further you get away from London...although I'm sure they're lovely in Bath' (where I live) I hate this kind of attitude. And the best thing?...they don't even live in bl00dy London! :rotfl:
Thanks Redglass, will keep that in mind. Luckily my mum managed to put her hands on what I needed before I could even get there so hopefully I'm sorted.

I have a damp smell in a cupboard in my house and also the 2 bottom drawers of my chest of drawers. does anyone have an idea as to how I would get rid of these. Theres no sign of dampness, just the smell. I've posted it on the In my home board, but I know that you lot are full of good ideas.
Hi Lynne - I agree with thriftylass, try bicarb. I have also heard that scrunched up newspaper can help absorb the dampness and odour (well, it works for books so it may be worth a go). Not sure if charcoal would do it as well but this may be more for stinky fridges :D

Aeroplane seats are also supposed to be packed with charcoal for the same reason....

    I am back,

DD is in bed. She is now insisting on having light on. I am waiting for my points from signing up one bingo site to land on my 1point account for me to get the solar lamp for her. But on the positive side as long as she has her light she stays in her bed instead of coming to wake me up in the middle of the night (you were right there Bails).

Feeling quite miserable tonight. I didn't go to college today as last night all the things that still needed doing was getting so overwhelming that I decided that my time today was better spent trying to do more catch up. From 22 items on the to do list I managed to do half. And I am far too exhausted to tackle any more tonight.

More anxiety caused the fact that I am starting to tackle my spreadsheets and it aint pritty. And to make things worse I have just ordered 4 books from Amazon. They are really important, they are, they are... It is the cashflow that worries me most. Also I have some business related entanglements that I am feeling really bad about at the moment. Bails has already sent me a cheering up text message about it.

And to top it all. I sent letter last week to apply for a block placement for next summer and they sent me an application form today. I filled in the form and just after I had dropped it into a letter box I realised that I forgot to put a stamp on it. So tomorrow lunch break will go chasing after a postman.

I will be heading to bed shortly so hopefully after getting some sleep I can then get everything up to date, would that be just fabulous...

    Have a good evening everybody,

    Marru

Marru, it is definitely the right decision and you will feel sooo much better once it's dealt with and out of your life. I promise xx

  • DD's desk from freecycle has been delivered and is installed in her room. It is solid wood and was hand made many years ago especially for the gentleman's study, but since retiring they have moved from a big house to a small bungalow and don't have room for it any more. It's so nice to know a bit of the history. DD is really pleased with it, so lets hope she's inspired to lots of studying.

In my reply to the ad on freecyle I stsated briefly why we wanted it, not going over the top but just enough for them to know it would be appreciated. I agree with everyone that it's important to be polite too.
