I didn't think the turkeys I've seen are that bad a price
If/when I buy a none-Whoopsied/special offer chicken, I always buy a fresh one. At Mr T, the cheapest are 1.89/kg, and the Organic are £5.99/kg. I prefer to go one up from Market Value, and tend to get the 'large' as they're best value for money in terms of meat to bone (at £2.79/kg)
The frozen turkeys (I've only ever had fresh once) are £20 for a 6.8-8.4kg turkey -- so if you get one of the largest (which I will be trying for) that works out at £2.38/kg. So it's less than the chicken, and even better meat to bone ratio in my experience.......Cheryl0 -
I know last year I got an uber frozen turkey, which weighed about 6-8kg and that was only about £8 - it was on a half price offer, but I've only ever seen them on half price offers, perhaps they can't do the same deals anymore...Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £158.69 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0

:hello: everyone.
This is my second NSDI've been at work 10am til 4pm, and it was hard work. I think my boss was still drunk  she'd had 3 and a half bottles of wine to herself! and only had 4 hours of sleep, so she wasn't too much help
bless her - she has a lot of problems at home at the moment, but she's lovely. Need to buy some new work shoes tomorrow, so it won't continue!
Hope everyone is okay xxBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Hi SF
two out of two for November:T well done.
Re the turkey debate, i will probably get a turkey crown from costco, they are usually very good quality and less waste, cooks quicker too so doesn't dry out.
I have now finished all my xmas pressie buying including everything for the stockings on xmas eve. Just the food shopping to do now but apart from xmas dinner don't really need that much, and have asda card for food shopping with £150 on it:D ( planning what to add to my stockpile with the unused mount;) )0 -
Hi everyone, just got back from Dad's house. Spent lots on petrol to get there and back, but at least the petrol prices have come down a bit. I went to a charity shop down there and found (hopefully) enough tiles to do my whole kitchen for £7.50. Bargain!!! Felt almost guilty, especially when I also found two USSR ornaments for £5 each, when they are worth more like £20 each. They are too nice to ebay, so they will just have to join my collection for a while. Added up my spends for October and came in well under budget again yay! Nothing like a bit of house buying to help with the spending, I'm being even more careful than usual about what I'm buying.
I got back just in time to see the end of the Grand Prix. Anyone who is planning to watch it later please don't read the next bit...
That was a proper nail biting finish! Well done Lewis Hamilton!!!!Live on £11k in 20110 -
Haha, I got back just in time for the last couple of minutes too, lynda - very exciting!
Thanks for the good luck, bails; it worked as we are through to the next round of the mooting competition which is cool
OH came round again this weekend which was lovely :j but he is busy next weekend and I am busy the weekend after that so it's going to be the last time for a whileHe's paid me the last of the money he owed me from the holiday and my student loan has finally come in so I'm feeling very rich at the minute :rotfl:
I made an exciting discovery though; he was poorly last night so I popped down to the co-op to get him some cough medicine and I found out that around 9.30pm their reduced items go down to around 10p!! normally the co-op is a little bit expensive so I hadn't been in there to find that out before. Consequently I broke what I had thought would be my first NSD of November to spend 60p on 24 bread rolls, 8 teacakes, a punnet of blueberries and a bag of salad - yumI LOVE blueberries and normally never buy them as they're so expensive. I'm wondering if setting myself a 15 NSD target on the November challenge was a bad idea since I might as well pop to the co-op every evening to check out the reductions if this is a regular thing. Will see how it pans out.
We went to Zizzi's today using the 2-for-1 voucher in martin's e-mail - I love this site
That is a mighty impressive budget, nyk. I hope that there is room in there for 'fun' as well, though I appreciate that the frugalising is fun in itself

Hey guys, you remember I said I'd heard that a turkey could cost £100? Check this out for free range birds - I'm considering NOT having tomato plants in the greenhouse next year! If I could rear 100 of these...
Yipee! I just took possession of my latest 'new toy'!It's the mini oven & grill that my friend rescued and has kindly given it to me for me and it's brand new! I can't wait to try it out for baking, it looks much cheaper to run than having to heat the whole oven, plus it has a timer I can actually work!
I finished making my first draught excluder a few days ago and have now got my material ready to start making curtains for the new kitchen. It's cotton print that I have had for years, so no cost involved here.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

 one of their big turkeys (which is the size I normally buy) would use up two-thirds of my monthly GC budget :eek:Cheryl0

You could try a three bird roast from the www.fordhallfarm.co.uk shop if you have a spare £80.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
