Does all this financial bad news affect your mood?

It affects my mood - I'm a stockbroker so am even more exhausted these last few weeks than ever before!!
My head hurts, my bones ache, and I can't sleep!!! But then that is all part of the job, which I am very very lucky to have, so I am not complaining (just a little grumpy at times

For me it is ditto energiser bunny and mr orchard.
I work in the public sector and have a very safe pension scheme, I also like that I can talk to more people about the joy of lidl and I have shared snowballing (the pay of your debt faster kind, not the other kind!!) with more people than I can think about£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

Hello
Yes it does affect my mood....but it also motivates me to get out of debt as quick as possible, so I am not so reliant on credit. Does that make sense?
Personally I would be happier and more confident if I had a small amount of savings - which could act as a buffer as food (etc) prices continue to increase.
Fortunately, my job is very secure and not hugely affected by the current situation, but I have two friends who are really affected by everything. At the moment I am just trying to be there to support them.

No.
After discovering some years ago that there is more to life than money - things like life - I am not bothered personally at all. I am lucky to be in a position where I owe nothing, own nothing and am not spending more than I should. Mmm... Lucky is probably not the right word - I am only in this position because I am bankrupt and have already hit rock bottom so luck hardly came into it.
But I do worry about others. My Dad retired to Spain, and his pension he worked all his life for is dropping as the exchange rates fluctuate. Spain claim to be in recession and the price rises over there are surprising them. They in turn feel sorry for the Spanish citizens who are not used to food prices rising so much.
But, back to my first point. There are more important things in life. We just don't notice until we lose/nearly lose those important things.0 -
There are a lot of people in the world being hurt by this and I have sympathy with them. Of course my house price is falling (but as we're not going to be moving its almost irrelevant to us. I do have a significant pension fund, however I've got 25 years until retirement so the hope is that it can pick-up again.
I do think we've got to be positive and keep working away, it would be easy to get down if you listen to the doom-mongers in the media.
Of course its not all bad news, oil has fallen below $100 a barrel today (from $150 at its peak).
Hopefully the majority of the population will learn what us DFW's have learnt the hard way. That there are more important aspects of life than posessions.Unsecured debt 2008 c £45,000
Current unsecured debt February 2016 £1,734.85

It bothers me to a degree, but I am slightly heartened to know I am not alone in this sea of debt!!! Don't feel so bad knowing I ain't the only silly billy with money

I must say this forum is great, keeps me on the straight and narrow, so all in all even though it's all going t**s up, I now have a focus and feel less worried!
xx

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I was trying to work out the other day at what point in our debt free journey we would be able to manage if one of us lost our job.........the answer is "not yet"! That is the point I want to get to in the shorter term - somewhere where I know the basic bills and food can be done on one wage......just in case!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Oh yes - not only does it affect my mood but my life - more on that tomorrow!0

I'm finding it difficult to cope at the moment with all the bad news in the papers - every time you look it's another bank with problems, the stock market (and therefore my pension) going through the floor, businesses closing, groceries and utility bills going sky high.
I know it's difficult, but remember the old saying "God grant me the courage to change what I can, the serenity to accept what I can't change, and the wisdom to know the difference."
No good worrying about it. If the bad news in the papers is affecting you - stop reading them. Are you managing to stay cheerful, or does it affect you?
I saw this coming a few years back. I also knew there was nothing I could do about it. That's where the acceptance comes in. I also know that it does affect other people, which is why I don't talk about it much.
People - and that's you and me included - are in denial. The difference is how much denial we're in. I'm 70% certain there will be a lull. And then things will get bad. They're not bad at the moment. Believe me on that.
Is that thought/hope of a lull my denial?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
