Is there a liability if the loan was taken out 13 years ago?

Isn't this the 'old style' loan you can defer unless you are earning the average wage? I deferred mine for years until I started paying it in 2006. Did you ever start repaying it?
Anyway, if you haven't got the money they can't have it can they? What do the letters from them say? Try contacting the CAB or National Debt Line who may be able to advise you. The SLC should not be causing you stress and may well need reminding of that!

Now I know what to do0 -
AFAIK the old style student debts is written off after 25 years, but if you have so little income I'm fairly sure you won't have to make repayments. Keep on trying your CAB.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

An email similar to my original post here was sent to the Student Loan Company. They promptly replied, "We are looking into your account and will be contacting you within the next 7 days to advise our decision."
Today, I received a letter from an Advisor of their Cutomer Care Team.
She reviewed my account and is in the process of cancelling the loan.
Once this process has gone through, SLC will send me a letter confirming that my loan has been written off.
:T
If anyone in similar circumstances to myself happen to read this thread, the moral of the story is to inform the SLC of your circumstances, rather than do nothing and worry like I was doing for many years.0
