1st mortgage payment is due today, so i was checking my agreement and guess what? i've put down my old account number, and there is NO money in there (no overdraft, nothing). they haven't taken it yet, so do they take it at midnight? or tommorrow?

i've got all my mortgage money in my new account does this mean i'll be down as a late payer (i have rung my mortgage people, and they were very nice, but nothing they can do tonight, etc).

i amso panicking don't know what i'm going to do

  • Has the old account got an overdraft facility? If not, can you apply for one on line.

Rather than ring the mortgage company, consider ringing the old bank. Most have 24 hour telephone or on-line banking.

Don't panic, it's not the first time that the bank/mortgage company will have seen this problem. Ring your old bank first thing tomorrow.

Did you transfer your bank account to another provider?

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.
  • Ring or visit your old bank first thing and do a CHAPS transfer then call the mortgage co. and explain!
  • Hi, i had this problem with 1 of my mortgages and they said send them a cheque with my account number on the back.
    Never was a problem.
I am sure if you told the mortgage company they can take it out of your new account in a few days

Don't panic, normally you can go into the red on your bank account even if you have no overdraft facility, as long as you put the money back into the account before the end of the day , normally 4pm.

I did this at a cash machine, I had no overdraft facility and at the time only had £50 in, by mistake i hit the £250 button, it gave me all the money, I rang the bank and they said put it back in before 4pm and it will be cool. That was the Co-op Bank

Now that's a hip bank daddyo.
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.

Im sure it wont go against you - there are often teething problems when you set up new direct debits.
