Plastic Recycling

We have just been issued with new wheelie bins for our rubbish and recycling. Unfortunately the council are being very strict on what plastics you may put in the bin which is very fustrating!!! For instance we are unable to put plastics such as fruit punnets in even though they say they are recyclable on the bottom and have the same symbol/number as some of the plastic bottles we can put in the bin  . Does anyone know anywhere in the Worcestershire/Warwickshire area where I may take the rest of the plastic to save putting it into landfil?

  • Do any of the supermarkets take them? There have been one or two posts saying that Tesco's and Sainsbury's are starting to recycle plastics though I am not sure what types.
  • This really frustrates me too. We have to take our recycling ourselves to the local council recycling centre and they too don't take the plastic punnets and trays so I'm presuming they can't be recycled anywhere:confused:

I know, its vexing. We have no plastics recycling here at all. Unlike some councils who will give a free heavy uplift there is a charge of £30. The money saved from landfill tax goes on a local museum rather than invested in more recycling.

Try a search on 'plastic recycling points LocalAuthorityName', eg 'plastic recycling points Birmingham'. There's a few that come up.
Edit: Sorry skippy just re read your original post again. Anyway..

    On a lighter note...Reuse?

Oops, I have been taking my fruit punnets to the recycle bank. I just checked they had the same symbol.

i saw on the tv that it is possible to recycle all plastic it just depends if the short sighted councils tried to get a good deal when subbing out their waste disposal contract and not noticing that the companies had excluded certain items. round here when we started recycling we couldnt included corrugated carboard because it was more expensive to recycle. now we can so i guess the council has renegotiated the contract.
