NI to scrap prescription charges

My only worry is that it will take even longer to get a docs appointment with people wanting free medication rather than paying for an over the counter solution. I wonder if they will bring back the minor ailments facility in the chemists?

I'd rather see everyone pay a small charge, even those on (decent level) benefits and use the money towards funding treatments that they're turning people down for due to cost (like some of the cancer drugs).

Well I am glad to see it . I take 9 different medications and buy a prepaid prescription at £36 every three months. I know that is only £12 per month but I have had times in the past where I have not had the £36 when I needed to renew prescription. My surrent on runs out on 4th October so this monring have ordered what I need and just need to remember to pick it up before 4th lol

I have been on Incapacity for 3 years and although some medications mean you get free prescriptions none of mine do.

Is this ALL prescriptions ? or just cancer patients?

An article I read the other day said it was only cancer patients but this article posted above reads differently.

If its all, then thats good for me as I suffer from arthritis and as im still able to work FT then I have to pay for a prepayment cert every 4 months or a year.

If I didn't have to pay then it would be so helpful for me financially :T

Personally and IMO I think anyone with any long term illness shouldn't have to pay charges. - thats IMO!!

No as far as I know they were talking last week about Cancer Patients but think it has been extended now to everyone.

SORRY FOR THE CAPITALS BUT THIS IS ONLY FOR WALES, SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN IRELAND.

They will be reduced in ireland to £3 in January, to £5 in scotland in Jamuary, and abolished in 2010.

In 2010 we in England will be paying nearly £9 an item.

What will happen will be with the DUP and the shinners doing so much ar$ing about, the assembly will be suspended and the direct rule minister will do away with this. (Well just a prediction)

now lets see ,we have to pay our own way ,and water rates as well .And yet they can afford free prescriptions for all .

I think this will be an expensive mickey mouse gimmick .I think the list for free prescription should have been extended to cover Cancer drugs ect ,But this is just going to make the doctors busier
