Looking to purchase new Canon DSLR

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a new Canon DSLR camera, and wanted advice on a few online places, and whether other people have used them.
At the moment, i think i'm going to get a Canon 40d (body only).
Cheapest place i've seen online is Digital Rev, however from reading up they are based in Hong Kong. The next was from BentonvilleMall, who are a UK company, however after doing a google search i found a few bad reviews about them.
All the others are about the same price, and the one that is sticking out is WareHouse Express, who seem to have good reviews.
Any suggestions from others?
Thanks,
Mark.

7day Shop, bought my TZ3 from them, Guernsey based.

Warehouse Express is going to be a good bet in my opinion. The problem with many overseas sites is that the cameras are grey imports and therefore not covered under UK Warranty.
I'd be okay with buying a lens abroad but there is far more that can go wrong with a camera so the UK warranty is worth it.
Warehouse Express sell genuine UK stock and are going to be the best price amongst the genuine UK stocking retailers.
They will also beat other similar retailers - when you view the product there should be a [price beat] icon. Click on this and it will tell you all the retailers they match against.
I've always had excellent service from them and have in fact purchased a 40d from them recently. It's ace!
However, if it is memory cards, batteries, filters etc that you are after, then 7day shop is a must. They are fantastic on price. You could also check out ebuyer as well but 7day shop usually come out top.
Check and see if 7dayshop have the 40d - if they do fine - but be sure it is UK stock if you go for them.0 -
Keep an eye on prices at www.camerapricebuster.co.uk, which updates daily.
I bought my Canon 450d at amazon after watching prices on camerabuster for a week or so. THe prices go up and down almost daily!
Remember that to qualify for the cashback £60 on the 40d you will need to buy within the EU so unless the HK price is significantly cheaper might be best to stick to UK for warranty as well as price.
May also be worth going to your local camera dealer and seeing if they can price match, or at least do you a good deal on the price of the camera and any extras you may want. Mine couldn't beat the deal I got at AMazon in the event but if I'd been in a position to buy sooner there was a good deal on at one point
Good luck!

I've just ordered a canon 40d from Amazon with 17-85mm lens for £799.99. They're doing the body only for aroung £565, but with the lens rrp at £400 plus I think the lens kit is a good buy. As annie C mentioned you currently get £60 cash back. I think it is worth mentioning the import and vat the UK customs will charge you. Personally I'd rather pay a little more and get it from a well known UK based company and now the price paid is all that will be expected. Also the warranties are in English and will be valid.
Mine should be here in the next day or so and I can't wait! I've order all my accessories from Amazon too as they're good value especially with the free postage.0 -
I bought my 40d from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. It's gone up ~£5 since then, but it's still relatively well priced.
£594.27 @ Amazon
£606.95 @ Warehouse Express
(Both prices include P&P.)0 -
I have the 40D, try flash_camera on ebay, that is his shop name, you can email him for cheaper prices though. It is a good camera aswell, but its all about the lens, look for a 70-200mm L f/4 if you want a sharp lens. Take a look at my flickr if you want to see the quality of them. Cheers for thew advice guys.
I usually buy batteries and memory from 7dayshop, and will do so again for this i think, and get the 40d from WarehouseExpress.
Got a friend going to Japan next month, so he's going to pick up a 24-105mm L for me, and then later on i'll get the 28-300mm L or 70-200mm L from one of the online HK shops i think.
Cheers once again.

Just done a price beat on Warehouse Express against amazon, as there was about £7 difference including P+P, so could get about £8 off the price with their "125% of the difference off" scheme. Not a great deal off, but enough for a 2 pack of batteries

See how i get on.
Cheers.0 -
