P87 Query re Businuss Need Car

Hi
Sorry if this seems a stupid question but I receive a business need car from work (job need car-basically I am provided it as long as I travel 10Kplus miles per annum). I am pretty certain I am not entitled to a P87 rebate but colleagues seem convinced I am and even the lady at the tax office was unclear when I called!
Surely the P87 is to cover wear & tear on your own car - if I am given the car (although I am taxed for having it) I am not entitled?

Please advise
Thanks!

If the car is supplied by your employer then you cannot claim any mileage allowance relief - as you state it is for using your own car for business purposes.

Does your employer provide fuel or do you have to?

If you do, does your employer reimburse you any of the costs?

Basically if your driving a company car (which by the sounds of it you are) and you provide the fuel, your employer can reimburse you up to a certain amount (depends on the car i.e petrol/diesel and engine size)

The link will take you to the HMRC page for cars in general. From there you should be able to find the bit that means most to you. (sorry)

Sorry, also forgot to mention any reimbursement should be for business travel only.

If your employer provides the car, there is NO tax relief on mileage even if your employer doesn't provide any fuel.

    True not on mileage but...

<H2>Tax relief for fuel when using a company vehicle

If you pay for fuel when using a company vehicle for business travel you can get tax relief on fuel costs, less any payments repaid by your employer and covered by a 'dispensation'. You must keep a record of your business mileage to calculate your expenses
