what to buy people for xmas!?

i wasn't sure where to put this, i thought here as i'm sure i wont be the only one in this situation: every year i'm faced with the same problem the dreaded question "what do you want for christmas" and the usual dreaded answer "don't know"
one year i said if one person says they dont know what they want they'll get book tokens my sister in law didnt speak to me for 3 weeks! - i wish that was a joke!

so can someone either throw some suggestions in my direction or teach me how to tune in my psychic ablities

i got my niece some perfume but she didn;t like it as she likes the expensive stuff any ideas would be muchly appreciated

  • One year my Uncle said to me when asked "what do you want for Christmas?" He replied "NOTHING"

so I got an empty jar and did him one of these:

but maybe that will not be something you give to your sister in law!!

I know asda had some lovely gift sets in last week and they were on offer at £10 each or 2 for £16. They had mens and womens gifts so maybe you could get them both something??

Or a Hamper? their is some great ideas on here:

I have done one aunt and uncle (Who have everything and loads of money) a wine hamper, Included 3 bottles of wine ASDA 3 for £10, 4 wine glasses 88p ASDA, Corkscrew £1 ASDA, and a cheap book about wine 99p. I have put it all together in a lovely box with shredded tissue paper and it looks really expensive.

Depending what they like you can do all different hampers to cater for taste, and the best thing is you can pick a few bits up here and there and spread the cost.

    Hope my Waffiling makes sense.

the hampers are a good idea too, think i'll have a go at them.

i'll try the vouchers too i might incorperate them into the hamper because i never know howmuch to give on a voucher/gift card and i dont like to seem tight!

if you dont want to go ask them what they want then the simple answer is just to buy something practical and nice....easier said than done i know but if you look at whats in the shops and then go for the safe option you'll be fine

  • Its upon your interest what you want. But try the bands collections best for you and other to gift.
  • It always is hard to know what to get. For my family, I usually will take them to the mall in advance and hope they give me come clues  sometimes this works, sometimes not. The problem is people you don't see that often. I have no idea what to get them, so if it's a young cousin i get them movie cinema gift cards, or an old aunt a nice handwritten holiday photo card will do fine. My friends are usually straight up and tell me what they want. If you want a go-to gift for anyone (over 21) though, I'd get a nice bottle of wine. Hopefully they like wine.

well, we decided that we can't spend loads this year and am thinking of introducing a "present for a fiver challenge" The challenge will be to come up with something fab, and original (not just bath salts or a £5 book token) but only spend £5.

    Any ideas anyone?

May be this could be a whole "run up to christmas" thread.
Can't wait to see what you all come up with!
  • I've been stuck on a couple of people but didn't want to go for the usual smellies option so have bought fluffy PJs from Primark.

I might have a go at sock cupcakes but they might end up as disasters so bought some chocolate coins as a stand by - might just have to eat them if the cupcakes work - how dreadful :rotfl:

My sister has just sent us a list of dvd's she wants (I have a feeling it's films she already has on video and is replacing as I'm sure I've bought them before!!!) anyway, because a lot of the film are at least 5+ years old they were all in the bagin bins and 3 for £10/£20 sales.

Do you know if anyone you have to buy for needs videos replacing with dvd's, has a fav film they'd prob never ask for (cause its old...or embarrasing!) You could pick up a handful to split between people for a bargin
