mileage HELP

hi guys

can anyone tell me in plain english, i.e no urdy gury, what i can claim for on ,mileage, i currently claim the company allowance but somebody said i can claim another 5p, whats that all about????

i must do 15,000 per yer company mileage---WHY WONT THEY GIVE ME A
CAR!!!!

Here's HMRC's factsheet about using your own car for work.

Basically, you claim a tax deduction of 40p for the first 10,000 miles and 25p for the remainder. So for 15,000 miles, exactly, you would claim £6,500 BUT you must deduct the expense you claim from your employer. So if you had received mileage expenses from your employer of £2,300 your tax deduction would reduce to £4,200
