Bank account frozen

Today my card was swallowed when I went to withdraw some money. I phoned the bank and they had placed a transaction block on my current account due to non payment of my creditcard.

The same day in the post I had a letter confiming this and demanding the full amount of the card within 14 days or they would take monies from the account without further informing me.

Are they within their rights to do this? I had no calls etc to say that my standing order had not been going through to the card?

My prime concern is that it mentioned that direct debits etc may not go through and my mortgage is due out on the 1st.

Obviously I will be calling when they open tomorrow but I wanted to be armed with the facts before I get a rough ride from them

Many Thanks
Si

I've never heard of anyone freezing an account before but yes, they are entitled to take money from your account to pay your credit card (assuming that the two are with the same lender).
    :p
  • I've certainly had the Halifax once take cash out of current account to pay my credit card bill when I was unemployed - benefits went in and immediately went to paying the credit card (even though there was an outstanding PPI claim for unemployment).
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

    Hi

get a new bank account today, you may have to make it a basic one with no credit checks, get your salary paid inn there and then set up new DDs to cover everything.

You may well have to contact the mortgage provider and pay this months out of next months salary etc, if the bank will not honour the existintg DDs.

What can you sell in the next month to catch up, on amazon, e-bay or at a "car boot" sale?

Post up an SOA and people will try and help you sort it out.
