Is anyone finding their partner is not in 'that place' yet?

DH doesn't seem to be embracing our new moneysaving existence. We start a DMP in November - currently will take about 9 years to clear but I want to cut that! Have been out and shopped very economically today but OH not at all impressed with the 'value' shop!

  • Ohhh yes, I know that feeling! I saw your other post on the DMP thread too.

We're three months into our DMP and have been glad to see the overall debt balance reduce. Then yesterday OH came home with some large parcels ordered through his mums catalogue (stuff for him). When I challenged what he had done he said "its ok, I'm paying for them myself" ... doh!!!! :wall:

Sometimes I just want to give up

  • I definately know that feeling!! Until very recently my OH wasn't at all on board with our debt bustin plans, but a recent blip made him open his eyes and pay much more attention to what we need to do to survive.

I've found that it's easier for me to be "in charge" of the money and give him "pocket money" - that way if he's not impressed with a particular item he can go and buy his own (but only if it comes from his own money!)

Good luck, and don't give up!!

I am in charge of our money now - a lot of the problems are because of his (past) gambling so I'm making sure it doesn't happen again! I know he's finding that hard too, the fact that he almost has to ask for money. We have another account that is for his money. I didn't include beer in my shop either!Sx
