Came across this on my travels, the results of DSL Reports forum members favorite software polls. If nothing else it provides a nice collection of links to popular software.

The first entry I looked at was Defrag software. And the winner was...
the standard Windows one:rotfl:
After reading that I'll take the rest of the results with a pinch of salt0 -

Having said that, although defragging is redundant on my system partitions I only use the native windows one on my data partitions.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Interesting results. It's pretty hard to read anything into them though.
For instance, Microsoft Picture Viewer is crap, yet it takes second place in its category. Audacity is not the best audio editor, yet it seems to be the most popular. It's interesting that Garageband takes second place though, given that its a Mac only program. Finder was also the second most popular file manager with a fifth of the votes, which would seem to indicate that 20% of people taking the poll are using Macs.
The free virus scanners are also out in force, despite paid for ones often having much better detection rates (and the pretty lacklustre AVG is at the top again). I guess it just affirms that price and familiarity are the most important factors for many when choosing software.0
