in Cutting tax
I was working as an employee until sept 2007. I then became self employed but working as a contractor through a partnership.
Forgive me also as I am from a country where we do a tax return every year and it is so straightforward - i don't understand all the language used here!!
I am trying to fill in my self assessment and feel as if my head may explode.
Do i say yes to being self employed even though all my income is via the partnership??
Where do i put my NI contributions the form has not asked for these but they are on my member statement??
I am concerned i have left something off as when i did the calculation I owe them about £1200 and cannot work out why. Do not really want to go to a tax advisor but will if I have to.
Thanks in advance.

If you are in a partnership you and your partners have to complete a partnership form http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/sa800.pdf on which the "nominated" partner will detail the income and expenditure of the partnership. The nominated partner will also detail how the profits or losses from the partnership are split between all the partners.
When you are doing your own personal self-assessment you will not complete a self-employment form, unless you have other self-employment outside the partnership. You will complete a personal partnership page http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/sa800.pdf onto which you will transfer your share of the profits/losses for the main partnership form.

thanks think this is what I have done. I also have some income from employment that I have included.
What about my national insurance though do I need to put this anywhere???0 -
You need a seperarte page for each job, so employment page for employee work and partner ship one for that work. there is a box to put tax deducted if any deducted as sub cotractor but you can not put down national insurance you just have to pay that.0
