candy striped flanelette sheets - can i make them fitted?

I have inherited a load of VGC candy stripe flat sheets - very retro 'don't make 'em like they used to' and all that. BUT I hate making beds 'properly' and I want to make them fitted. Can I just fix elastic diagonally across the corners?
I can sew a little bit but I do it by hand, although I have a hand powered singer and an overlocker I am a bit afraid of them!
The fabric is good quality so I had to have them! And the stripes, brought back memories;)

Yes, it should work. Just put the sheet on the bed to get the elastics in the right place. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

The easiest way to do this is to just tie a knot in each corner, or if it's too fiddly for a knot then bunch it together with a thick elastic band (courtesy of the postman). They can be washed tied like this with no problems0

oh yes I shoulda known - from my 1st aid training! Its just like doing a sling! And the laggy bands, has anyone complained about the amount of litter dropped by posties! At least it's useful litter!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Make a triangle in each corner. Fold the new sheet edge together to form a triangle on the wrong side. Sew the elastic about 18 inches along each side of the corner.
