Baking utensil - name?!

  • Woo hoo we have a little food M&S that sells kitchen utensils, I'd been wondering if it was worth a look. 3 for 2 is great as I'm looking out for bargains for DS when he goes to uni in a year or so so I will buy him a couple of basic utensils to go in his collection and then (hopefully) get a pastry thingy free !

That has given me a reason to get up and go out ..... lots to do and no energy today .

they're absolutely brilliant things & I wouldn't be without mine, which I got for 5p in a bargain bin longer ago than I care to admit to :D

I saw one in a shop recently but can't remember where it was, maybe Asda or Woolies? if I remember I'll post again

EDIT ... angelnikki beat me to it, darn my slow typing :o
  • I've never seen one of those before. We went blackberry picking yesterday so there is a lot of crumble to make!

DD2 wants to help though and I think she would prefer the messy approach.

How do you use it? Do you just swish it all around with the utensil?

you just kind of chop down into the fat & the pieces gradually get smaller & smaller till they're 'rubbed in'

another good thing is that your mixture stays cooler than if you do it by hand
  • Well I'm sad to say our M&S didn't have one in. I could have got an avocado slicer or all sorts of other useless items though!
I looked in Woolies and Morrisons as well with no luck. Also a couple of charity shops, no luck there but I DID find some curtains which will fit my front door, have been looking for ages so am very happy with that. Think I will put the pastry thing on my birthday/christmas list instead.

This is going back probably 25 years or so  but yes, that's pretty much how I remember using my Mum's. Kind of like a grinding action? Think you have to keep shaking the bowl to bring the big bits to the top, same as rubbing in by hand?
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting one, hopefully no more achey hands!
    Thanks everyone.:T

cookshops in places like Boundary Mills stock them - if you have a Fenwick/Bainbridges/John Lewis type department store they often have fab cookshop areas that stock stuff like this too.

I see, I think I am going to have to try and find one. We are off to M&S for some bits one evening this week. Hopefully they will have one.
