I have receding gums too and I was advised to use Sensodyne toothpaste 3 times a day to ease the sensitivity and to floss regularly and to use the toothpaste at night as a cream if my gums get sore

But were you given a diagnosis as to WHY your gums are/were/have receeded.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Only that as I had suffered with gingervitis as a child this had caused receding of the gums and also as my jaw was misaligned it had caused wear and tear on the hinge of my jaw which caused unneccessary pressure on my jaw bone, how these are related I didn't quite understand. I was told there was no cure or help available and would have to have dentures eventually

Have none of them offered to refer you anywhere? Even privately?

It still sounds very strange to me.

If I had a patient who I thought was on a slow bus to dentures - especially if she had a funny bite and a funny jaw that would make denture wearing very difficult, then I would be referring her all over the place to try and get something done about it.
