hello all, been on a dmp with cccs for about 18 months. Accumulated a dept of about £55,000 due to gambling. Only told wife 19 months ago (she had no idea and thought we were well off). After a sticky few months thankfully our marriage got back on track and it's now better than ever, although can be delicate when money issues concern the family. I have never talked to anyone about my situation, finding this website has lifted my spirit today. This morning i recieved a judgement for claimant letter, it states i have to pay my creditor the full £6949 within 16 days. I do not have this money and am now worried that bailiffs will come. Is this a ccj. Any advice of what the future is regarding this letter would be really appreciated.

Hi,
Welcome to the site.
I'm a bit new to be offering any concrete advice but I would think you should speak with cccs who are administrating your dmp.
More knowledgeable members will be along shortly.

Hi - I just wanted to say hello and welcome. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question either. I agree with ajaney that you should contact CCCS as they will be able to advise you...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I'll third that - CCCS and national debtline will be able to offer you sound advice on what exactly you have been sent and what your options are.
Is this a council tax bill or something?

Well it certainly sounds like a CCJ. Is it from a court? Did you not get a claim form? If so you could ask for it to be set aside.
A lot of if's here. If it is from a court you could ring them prior to speaking to CCCS.
I know a lot of people have got debts because of gambling. Have you kicked this 'evil' habit now?

Hi stebiz, thanks for reply. Have not gambled for nearly 2 years now and life is good, just worried about bailliffs and the impact on my wife(none of this is her fault). My letter is from a court and did get a claim form, sent my dmp to the solicitors as requested, anyway will speak to cccs tomorrow, hopefully they will let me know what to do.0
