Chilled Red Wine - Types & Deals?

Options
Most red wines are surposed to be served at room temperature however I believe there are a certain few types of red wine which are best served chilled.

Does anyone have any details of what these types are and where to buy them?

Wines with a low tannin are good such as those made with the Gamay grape

  • Brown Brothers Tarrango is good - in fact, the label recommends to serve chilled.

You should get it from most supermarkets. My local spar also sell it. Generally it will be priced around or just above the 5 pound mark.
    Looking forward to the future.

I believe some bordeaux's or burgandy's are good chilled, but I''m sorry I don't know specifics.

    Or maybe it was Beaujolais I was thinking of;

    "
There are lots of red wines that taste good chilled. The basic rule of thumb is that light and medium-bodied reds are most suitable for cooling. In supermarkets, these are the wines coded A, B or C on the back label.
In fact, the only ones that don’t taste good cold are very full-bodied tannic reds such as Bordeaux clarets or Italian reds like Barolo.
While the practice of chilling reds still raises an eyebrow or two in restaurants in Britain, it’s commonplace in the New World. And in France, the lighter wines from the Beaujolais region and tangy, fruity reds from the Loire Valley, such as Chinon and Bourgueil, are often served chilled.
As well as chilling your reds in the fridge, you can give them a 20-minute blast in the freezer or serve them in an ice bucket. Many of the lighter reds also make good spritzers mixed half and half with soda water." iVillage.

MissesH and I often chill our reds.
Room temperature (according to the wine bottles) is usually 15 - 17 degrees, which is quite cool. I think it's, more accurately, cellar temperature.
The pinot noir reds - from Alsace and their German neighbours spatsburgunder - are served chilled. Lovely!!
Burgundy is also pinot noir. In France you probably wouldn't be served chilled burgundy but I think it works.
The other thin reds are the gamay types from Beaujolais, etc.
You can buy them anywhere - look for the grape types. In my experience, gamays are cheaper and pinot noir is more expensive (but nicer).
