Speaking to the Bank - Advice Needed

Hi
I'm a brand new newby to the site so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I'm speaking to Natwest on Tuesday on behalf of my 19 year old son, he has a current account with a free £50 overdraft, and as all 18 year olds at the time would do, viewed this as free money and used it to the limit all the time.

He's since become unemployed and a direct debit wasn't cancelled by a company which put him over the limit.

I've just found out about this, Natwest have racked up £122.24 in charges and interest and my son has no way of currently paying it off.

Is there anyway I can A). stop them from charging him any more, and B). remove some or all of the charges?

I'm looking for trigger words and phrases the bank will respond to or a tried and tested method any successful person used when dealing with Natwest.

Cheers, Sue.

(He hasn't paid any actual charges - I need help to try and get them removed)

first of all as your son is 19 and legally an adult the bank will probably not talk to you as you are not the account holder. (Data protection etc.) If he is in the room with you they may ask to speak to him to ask his permission to let you deal with the matter but dont bank on it (no punintended)
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • DPA's not a problem, I'm fully conversant due to my job but thanks anyway.

Go into the branch to see someone in person and explain what's happened, if it's the first time it's happened they may very likely refund the charges.
