    Hey there,

Well i've just finished my first ever week on the grocery challenge and i've scraped in at 49.86 of 50 pounds. Am pleased with that as I did a big family meal midweek for a birthday and i've got a pretty full freezer.
Will start again on Monday with another 50.00 budget for the week and see if I can pick up some Xmas bits.

Keep up the good work everybody :T
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

    Hi All,

Well Ive totally lost it this month, i dont know what ive done with a couple of my receipts, and I paid for my shopping with cash, so, i cant even check back to see what ive spent   . I know it must be about £80 odd but im not so sure. I think for this month, I will need to take a step back from the challenge, and start again afresh from next month.

    Jackie

No-don't drop out this month-its only a blip! Call it £85 and do your best? Taking part and keeping receipts is great so a little blip now and then isnt the end of the world-don't despair!
I had to take dd to a mates for a sleepover today and there is a good market nearby so I popped in there fro some fruit and veg. Got bananas,15 kiwis,15 satsumas,2 cabbages, 20 peaches(a tray) and 3 med bags of grapes,2 punnetss of strawberries and a huge melon for £10.50. Also got nescafe 100g x 4 for £1.20 per jar and a box of tetley 100 teabags for £1.20.
Just need bread and milk and I think that should do me!

gtx is baking birthday muffins! I get a premonition!

P.S. we picked some lettuce yesterday and it smelt lovely! That stuff in shops has no smell!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

OK, we'll go for £80 this week with a view to trying to shave it to £70 in time. That would nearly halve our shopping bill. It shouldn't be too difficult the first week as we have stuff in the freezer, not a lot in the cupboards though. I will let you know how we get on.

    Wow!

Do you buy a lot of 'finest' and branded, or a lot of 'treats' or do you just buy a lot?

My bill goes up when I buy a lot of 'treats' - usually when the kids are loading BOGOF Sensations crisps, Jaffa Cakes, Cheerios and the like into the trolley.

Good luck Ness and welcome to the challenge - you will find loads on here that will help you bring down your bill - read the first two posts first - it will help you get started. Also on the first page of this thread is a great recipe index where you can find cheap and easy meals (and LOADS of goodies :o ) to cook and freeze for later 'readymeals'. Good luck!

I'm off to do this weeks shopping now, I hate shopping on a Saturday so will definitly not be lingering and picking up any extras (mmm, that sounds like a plan? :D ) Will update siggy on my return...

No, we don't do finest, we do have beer, an awful lot of washing powder etc, 6 pints of milk a day, an awful lot of fresh fruit and veg - eat a lot of peppers and mediterranean type food, a loaf or two of bread a day, more than one packet of cereal a day, we get through a lot of vintage cheddar too - I don't think we'll be able to go value on that. We will use up a whole carton of hoummous, say, or philly or whatever for packed lunches as well as a whole cucumber for veg sticks etc - it all just adds up! OH eats like a horse and the kids are always hungry too, maybe they should get less exercise!

Everybody has to start somewhere, I dread to think what we were spending before we started this challenge, and it didn't go on finest!!!

Also, depends on circumstances - might be a big family! At least you've found us now Ness...
