Am in process of transfering my private pension.Why must I have a witness sign my discarge papers?

Some providers ask for a witness, some do not. Most financial advisors will witness them for you, if you are using one.
It is a legal document so I guess some providers feel a witness is necessary to reduce the chance of fraud. After all, once the pension has left the provider, you can't go and stick it back again if something goes wrong (with most providers).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
