I paid them what I owed them. I got them to cancel the charges by writing to them and pointing out that as advised by the CAB they are subject to UK Consumer Law and that there charges were unreasonable and therefore potentially unlawful. I also continously phoned them to point out that it was there mistake that they hadn't taken the Direct Debit.
Eventually I got an email stating my account was clear.
As stated above they are very unlikely to visit your home. They never even threatened me with that. But if they do, they have no rights so tell them to go away.
So you paid the debt minus the charges?
Or you paid the debt with the charges and then they refunded the charges?0 -

I paid the debt - nothing more - their charges are unreasonable. I asked them for a bank account and sort code then went to my bank and paid the money in. They still kept phoning and asking for the charges to be paid and threatened me with more, but I just kept phoning them back and saying no.
It wasn't much fun but it worked in the end.
I'll never ever use them again, but they still keep emailing me asking me to set up a new DD so that I can loan with them again. They don't seem to have got the message.LBM : March 2008

Did you at least pay the interest? Or just what you borrowed?0 -
I paid the interest - I admit I owed that (even though it's a ridiculous APR). It was only the charges I disputed so refused to pay them.LBM : March 2008

What can they do if you don't pay them? Will they take you to court, and report this to credit reference agencies?0

Ok maybe not the perfect answer BUT do you have a credit union local??? Maybe do a loan with them very low rates and pay the company off with that.BSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !

What is the worst they can do if I can no longer afford it, to pay them?
Is it court action? Or is it a communication to the credit reference agency?0
