Hi, Can anyone out there help me? My OH is the most difficult to buy for and this year we have a really reduced budget of £50 each. I am so stuck. He's not into sweets or beer. We have two children under 3 with no family (ie babysitters!) near so spare time and sleep can be almost non-existant. I usually get him books and/or cd's but I would love to get him a "wow thats fab" present. I just havent a clue what!
He cycles to work during the summer. Reads thrillers or science fiction. We love to travel (but dont really do it much anymore). He has done creative writing short stories in the past but hasnt written in years however claims he wants to get back into it. I did look into a creative writing course at a local college but its £60 so too expensive.
I dont want to get him just one present and I also have a find some bits for his stocking out of my £50. I thought about trying to be more creative with my money but cant think what to do. I am a total novice when it comes to creative stuff and the closest I come is that I am a good baker and have a good digital camera. We've done the photos of the kids for work thing and making photo frames plus the kids painting bowls etc or handprints.
I need to get his present from the kids from that too.
In short I am desperate for some inspiration. I also have a DS who will be 1 the week before xmas and I am at a total loss as to what to get him for his birthday or xmas. Yipes. Help guys.

How about getting him a copy of the 'Writers' and Artists' Yearbook 2009' They do it in Waterstones for about a tenner. Then buy him a load of writing material, note book, pens, pencils stuff like that, or maybe try and find a cheap/second hand typewriter so he can write the old fashioned way.0

Is there a book on creative writing you could get that maybe would get him going on it again ?
Maybe if you did him a 'journal in a jar' as something from the kids it would give him something to think about and write about - and its a cheap thing to do. Get a nice notebook for him to fill in to go with it.
Sorry - minds gone blank now..............my oH is into football and I've bought him so much stuff in the past thats been football related - this year I'm going for the 'grumpy old man' line.................lol
Good luck. I'll keep thinking
Oh..........just a little thought........how about a diary.......not just for appointments and stuff but one he can record daily events in, his feelings about them, stuff like thatMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Thanks they are great ideas. Love the journal idea and I was thinking about buying a plain hard backed note book and covering it with some material etc we have lying around. Make it a bit special?0

Not sure how easy this would be to do but I've done a 365 facts in a jar for my OH, could you do quotes from books in a jar?
I've done 2 journal jars and started with this site... http://organizedchristmas.com/printable/adult-journal-jar. There's also a thread on this board with some great ideas... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1150885&highlight=journal+thought+day
