Keeping parsley fresh

I was given a large amount of parsley today from my green grocer and there's enough to last me a few weeks. What's the best way to preserve it, it's still on the stock. I've read a few methods, like freezing it (unwashed) in an air tight container, storing it unwashed in an air-tight container or placing it in water like you would do with flowers.
What would you recommend is the best way to keep parsley (on the stock) fresh for a few weeks?

Hi pretani,
I always freeze it. Chop it finely, put it into a freezer bag (not packed tightly) and it's easy to lift out the amount you need. I tried freezing it in icecubes with water but found it a bit fiddly.
There's an earlier thread on preserving herbs that may help:
Freezing and preserving herbs
I'll add your thread to that one later as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

For a looooong time I thought that it would keep fresh by keeping the stalks in water like flowers, but it always went yellow on me after a few days.
Recently I have started keeping it in the fridge in a sealed plastic bag and it keeps much fresher for much longer.
Freezing is ok if you want to use it in cooked stuff, but there's nothing as lovely as a finely chopped tomato, onion, fresh parsley and avocado salad, dressed with olive oil and lemon and scooped up, salsa-style, with corn chips!

when I have to buy parsley I wrap a piece of damp kitchen paper around the ends and and then put it in a plastic bag. I have been known to keep it this way for at least a month if not longer, I can't really remember-I have it growing out of control in the garden at the moment0
