Are NIE sneaky?

Options
Got the letter yesterday telling us about the new electric prices and the usual blurb about getting the 40 digit code to change the tariff automatically on 1st October. In the past any tariff changes have been effected by a 40 digit code on your first top up after the change on this occasion the code is being given out on any top ups done after 23rd september. The letter was apparently written on the 16th september but not delivered until the 26th  conveniently 3 days after the new codes will be given out.
In the past you could have topped up the day before the price rise and effectively got cheaper electric for as long as your top up lasted, doubt that's going to happen this time.
The convenient timing of their letter has no doubt caught out those of us who were waiting for payday to fill the electric up.

  • Well as we all know there's no room for sentiment in business.

Yes I agree it was a bit sneaky. I usually put my months electric money in at the end of the month when OH gets paid. So i'd definately have made a decent saving on Oct's leccy.

  • I bought my first home in April & this is the 2nd big increase! not good at all!! stocking up on candles just in time for their next announcement lol!!!

why do the bills keep getting more expensive lol???!!! Its just not very fair!!!
  • The letter states that you will only be charged the new tariff from 1st Oct so any useage up until that date will be at the old tariff. This is probably in response to the stampede which happened last time they announced a price rise. By doing it this way, everyone is geared up to pay the new tariff from Oct 1st, regardless how much you have topped up. I suppose this avoided people being able to dodge the new powercode by doing a massive top up just before the 40 digit code is issued.
I do admit tho, it was a slightly sneaky tactic to delay the sending out of the letters until after the 40 digit code was unavoidable.
  • yeah i thought that as well - they have nothin to learn - i hate havin to pay for electirc :)
