washing machine rental help please

Quite a few years ago, whilst living in a student house, I rented a washing machine in my name.

The washing machine was never collected and I am still paying rental for the damn thing. Thing is, I have absolutely no way of getting the washing machine back - it's probably sitting in a tip somewhere as it was about 2001 we left the student house - I dread to think how much I've paid.

The rental is with Boxclever. Any ideas how to go about stopping the DDs?

Thanks

  • If it were me, i would stop the DD from your account as you can control that.

Then i would sit tight and wait and see if you get any communication from them....... not likely as you don't live there anymore.

Your payments will have more than covered the cost of the machine so they may not pursue it.....

I had a rented machine thru Euronics, once i'd rented it for so long (3 years maybe?) it actually belonged to me... worth enquiring if this boxclever one was the same... maybe you can call up and enquire generally without giving account details.... you might already own this machine and actually be due a rebate if that were the case....

However this is only what i'd do under those circumstances rather than good legal advice as it were!!! lol
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

I had a simlar problem with a rented TV. I took out the rental agreement in 1998 (yes I know, I probably paid for the TV 10 times over!!!) and last year I decided I didn't want it any more.

I could find no paperwork whatsoever and googling the company name brought no results. I cancelled the DD with my Bank expecting to get a letter or some other form of communication from them but so far (10 months later) have heard nothing. In fact the TV now resides at the local tip so I hope they don't want it back

Oh, and I have checked my credit file and there is nothing on there at all.
    :p
