Bank charges
Hi Folks,
Recently my current account went overdrawn with no overdraft.
The Halifax is going to charge me about £200 because of this which I think is very unfair so I rang the helpline and they stopped one of the charges.
I then went to see the local branch and they stopped two more of the charges but I will still be charged £157.
The local branch is appealing to headoffice about this next week but if this fails which it probaly will what can I do?
Do I pay the charges? Contact headoffice myself or do I threaten to take my business elsewhere?
Hope somebody can help and I look forward to some helpful advice

The bank look after your money and give you interest for it. When the bank banks with you, they need recompense to compensate for you looking after their money.0

https://www.bankchargeshell.co.uk is the place to find out how not to pay these charges.
I have done exactly what it says on that site and have had ALL my charges returned to me.0 -
Hi Folks,
I fully admit that I had made a mistake with my current account and that I was overdrawn to £63 but to levy charges of nearly £200 is unfair to say the least espically as this is the first time that I have been overdrawn in 25 years of banking with the halifax. I would not object to a charge of say £30 but the first set of charges I can only describe as near extortion and I intend to get them returned as soon as possible and I will let you know what happens

If you want to PM me I can talk you through the legalities and explain why the charges are illegal.0

Wow, just seen that website, and am amazed that the banks have been conning us all for years!!!
Maybe if enough people sue the banks, they will think more about reducing their charges
MatthewI'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore :beer:0 -
