Mortgage accepted then declined

I recently made an application to the Nationwide and had my application accepted and forwarded to the underwriters. After a few weeks of not receiving an offer, I queried the delay and was told they were waiting for a receipt for the homebuyers report from the branch. I faxed thru my copy and was later told the application was declined. I spoke to my branch yesterday and was told that the adviser was on holiday but eventually got a call from somebody who said it was to do with my credit score. I hav checked my credit score and it is excellent. The adviser said that it was to do with another search carried out for a Nationawide Mortgage. This occurred I think when I originally seen a broker who did an AIP for me, but on the basis that no credit scoring would be done.

I have now been asked for 6 months banks statement and evidence of my deposit.

I am very worried (and about to go on holiday). Are my chances good, should I complain and if so to whom?

Nationwide don't do full aip's without a credit score. They will do an affordability check without one though.
Any broker should make you aware they are running a credit check and get your prior permission though.

Don't think you'll have any problems though. It's just that a recent credit score may have cost you a few points, resulting in tighter underwriting.
