What vouchers do Tesco's accept?

Options
I've read various posts about Tesco's accepting money-off vouchers - is this just against the product you buy or do they accept any money-off vouchers even if you don't buy the specific item?

And on that note - do any other supermarkets accept any vouchers? I remember years ago (too many!), when I worked at Safeways as a Saturday job, we used to accept any and people used to come in with wad loads!

Thanks
Quidco ~ £3,718 | Greasypalm ~ £354 | Freefivers ~ £45 | Pigsback ~ £260 shopping vouchers + 15 CDs

Don't qoute me (as I don't work on the tills full time )but as far as I understand it Tesco will take 1 non Tesco voucher off your shopping (even if you have not bought the product) as long as it scans. There are store limits as to how many can be put through at one time . The days when you could give wedges to pay for your shopping are over as some people were getting too greedy.

On a more positive note Teco will accept Sainsbury and Waitrose conditional vouchers (eg £14 off a £70 shop) but not the product specific money off (eg 20p off bread).

I have seen other posts relating to this suggesting that self-scan till are more generous but we don't have any in my store.

  • A few months ago near me, Tesco opened a giant 24hr Tesco Extra opposite a giant 24hr Asda. Tesco had a giant sign outside saying 'we accept Adsa vouchers' and within a couple of days Asda had one saying 'we accept Tesco vouchers'.
I don't know if this is the policy accross shops though. It may depend on who is the nearest big competitor.

I successfully used a £3 off £30 Sainsbury voucher and £5 worth of vouchers from Sainsburys magazine on specific offers without buying them at Tesco. The cashier just scanned them and they went through so think its pot luck really but always worth a go :D
  • Been told in Tesco's today that these are changing again because the manufacturer's are wanting proof the item was bought before giving Tesco's the money for them, so NONE will be accepted if item not bought!
2023 wins - Rice Krispies, Avene Micellar Gel, Barbie Toy, £20 Apple Gift Card, KFC 6 piece bargain bucket, Chloe Nomade perfume, Barbie Toy (second one), Sanctuary Spa Sleep Balm, E45 Moisturising Lotion, Trolls Hamper, 12 Tonie Characters, Sure deodorant, Good Home Utensil holder, £5 Costa Gift Card, Neutrogena Micellar Jelly, Soap & Glory Mascara, Persil capsules,
  • Sounds like a load of rubbish to me!

How on earth are Tesco going to prove the item was bought? Send a picture of the customer buying the item?

I went last night to Warrington Tesco Extra. I spent about £28 and asked how many vouchers she would take. "As long as they scan I will take any" she replied. It took my shopping bill down to £21 in the end and only two out of the twenty or so vouchers did't scan
    I haven't got one!

I came across an assistant who was having a truly bad day with nasty customers yesterday, she was so glad to see a friendly face she just offered to scan mine and see if they went through, she took 8 in total which were mostly for a quid each and took 6 pound off my bill. They were all ones from the Sainsburys and Somerfield mags too.

I think there is no problem with the tills accepting them if they scan, it just depends what assistant you come across and if you are nice and polite about it.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
