Hi everyone,
A bit of background; in 2001/2 I went through a massive depression due to the loss of a baby and subsequent girlfriend etc. I had a creditcard with a 1000pounds Natwest on it and an overdraft of 300pounds with Lloyds TSB. To cut a long story short, the years that followed we're spent in alcohol and dodging paying anything back, F the world and so on...
6 years on and I'm feeling the best I have for years financially wise, fitness could be better but what can you do, one step at a time. I've just finished my first year at Uni (Mature Student!) and I'm engaged to a beautiful girl who I think the world of.
I'm trying now to get everything in order for when we graduate and then hopefully settle down and one day even maybe buy a house.
I've just got the Cashplus card to boost my credit rating and today for the first time ever checked my credit file...this is where my confusion arises...
There seems to be no debt on my file...I had one more thing with Natwest Current Account overdraft that has been paid off by my parents but apart from that, there is nothing. I presume that I have gone into default with my unpaid debts, but what does this mean??
Also another thing is that I have registered my creditreport at my parents house where I have been living on and off for the past 16years and it has said that I have 1000 credit...but this is under my dad's name, we share the same name...I dont know whether to update it to my new address at Uni where I am registered on the electoral roll..will this not put the debt collectors onto my scent?? I want to start making amends but at my doing not threatening letters & calls for some meatheads!!
The beacon of light that came to me checking my credit was when my wallet was lost and someone had used my licence as ID and managed to get 2 mobile phone contracts under my name which led me to ask how bad is my credit????
I am in two minds whether to pay for the experian 5.95 to see the actual score??
Thanks in advance, I have been scouring these pages and reading peoples stories of success for years and now I would like to add mine to.

Hi D,
There is no actual credit score for any person, all the financial institutions use different scoring methods to assess your credit rating, save yourself £5.95 mate.Sparky0107 - Sealed pot challenge member #002. Total for SPC3 £1,030.57 Total For SPC 4 £2247.00 Total for SPC 5 £2574.62 :T Total for SPC 6 £4552.91:T
:rotfl:LC2 & Jakes-Mum are off their heads :rotfl
:j DEBT FREE AS OF 20/01/2012 :j0 -
Go back to your credit report and update it with every address you have lived at since you opened the accounts, including your current one.
You will then see your whole credit file.
It wont open up all these addresses to creditors as it is you searching your info.
Cheers.😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬0 -
Hiya
Firstly, you can get your credit records for £2 each.
Secondly if thses debts are more than 6 years old, then they will not show up on your credit record and they are probably statute barred.
This means that they still exist but in law and under OFt Guidelines, if you tell the creditor you are not paying, they cannot pursue you through the courts and should not attempt to make any further contact with you.
The only query would be if they are subject to a CCJ in which case they creditor would have to go to court to get permissions to pursue you if they have nt done so within 6 years of the date of the CCJ.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
In regards to these; I have a satisfied default on my credit account from 2002, will that be removed this year or is there a way that I can get it removed by contacting the bank?
Also the statute barred, if a debt does go into this state, does this in affect mean that it has been written off? Will it not show up in the future when I try to apply for credit, esp. mortgages and so on??
Thanks a hell of a lot for all your help.0
