Advice following tooth extraction

First of all thanks to all those that encouraged me in an earlier post to go to the dentist, I have been and two weeks ago had the tooth in question removed! However, now it is out I still have a gap in the middle of the extraction site, in between where the gum has grown over it but doesn't quite seem to have made it all the way across (it is a blood red kind of colour). Is this normal this long after an extraction, as little bits of food keep getting stuck in there and it is a pain to keep brushing my teeth after it happens?
Any advise very much appreciated,
Chris

Having a tooth out leaves a fair old hole in the bone, and it does take a few weeks to heal over properly.
It doesn't sound abnormal to me, but go and see your dentist if you have any concerns. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I had a tooth out about 5 weeks ago and the hole is still big - don't know if that makes you feel any better though!0

Phew thats OK then! I stopped the salt water rinsing a week ago to be honest, I thought it would all be healed by now! I'll start that regime again and be careful not to get any food in it.
Thanks,

I wouldn't worry about food. It's healed over well enough for that not to be a problem. How to find a dentist.
