How to do artificial flowers set in gel??

Hi there

Does anyone know what to use to do those artificial flowers that are set in a gel in a vase? They look lovely but are so expensive to buy and I have loads of atrificial flowers already at home. Would love to be able to do it with a clear vase. I thought of using some kind of silicone thing like a bath sealant but it would be really messy in a clear vase. Must be something they use.

Any ideas?
