  • Debt currently stands at £5,275.27 :T Which is £566.06 or 9.69% paid off. Still one more bill to come in before I can update my EOM Total.

Vanquis bill came in, that was one of the direct debits I cancelled. They've listed that I paid by BACS and by direct debit:confused: Hopefully that will rebalance next month. I'm being charged for credit expert, even though I'm certain they closed that account because it had been inactive for over a year. I need to ring them on Monday.

I still haven't been to the council, there's always something else I end up doing, so I'm going to go on Monday.
  • You are doing well - slowly but surely. Get down to those coucil offices though - procrastination is the thief of time - (and money)!
  • My lil bro's been for tea today and has said he'll drop the money in on Friday. I want to ring my lanlord and ask if I can pay my rent weekly for the next 2 months. It really hammers my budget paying monthly, and in Jan I need to pay my boss the £650 I borrowed, which means probably only £500 wages. We can manage, it's budgeted to be paid back and is affordable, just not at the beginning of the month when I get paid and my rent is also due. In Feb I want to clear OH's overdraft, £500 there, so same situation. My friend rents from the same agents and pays hers weekly, so I can't forsee it being a problem. I can only ask.

She is :D The biggest thing that is helping is relinqushing control of the weekly grocery budget. It's not my responsibility any more it's OH's. I tell her how much to take, and if she spends it all, tough, she's learning too. She ran out by Wed this week, meaning DS couldn't have his hair cut (since that's including in the grocery bit, for reasons unknown to anyone). She asked me for some money, I said no, I gave you £X on Friday, you knew he needed a haircut, you knew it had to last until Thursday, but you spent it, so no way lady. Now because of your bad money management, poor DS looks like a shaggy donkey. Ok, I wasn't as mean as that, but you get the point, and she is realising she has to share this burden with me. I was managing the whole thing, on my own, not giving her any financial responsibility, treating her basically like a child. This way there's less pressue on me. I give her the money, or tell her how much to take out the bank, and that's it. It seems to be working. I'm less stressed, not dipping into other money/borrowing from next month, because I feel I shouldn't have to, and if the grocery money has been spent, it's not my fault.

    Phew, that was a ramble.:rotfl:
  • Hi evanesco

I have read a few posts and just wanted to say welcome back (even though i know thats a few months late lol) well done for coming back, always the hardest thing to do i think in anything - admitting you messed up!!

So congrats on that and clearing nearly 10% :) yay!!

Just wanted to say really we are getting married in 2010 too :) hence the kick up the !!!! lol hopefully will have the final bill gone by end of jan so we can start saving! Although H2B still has car finance... debating whether to actually clear this or just leave it run out as they dont accept overpayments so would have to just save up and then pay it in a lump sum - well id rather save up and use it for the wedding LOL

Hope things are going ok :) u can do it!!!!!

  • Thanks MrsP.

Having a wedding to plan certainly spurs me on, and even having my Dad pay for the reception hasn't hampered my plans, it's made me more determined to clear my debts then save up. I was going to pay £450 every month, snowballing. But I'm just going to clear it and then save. This way all our spare money after becoming DF will be for the wedding. One thing I have learnt in the past couple of months is not to overstretch ourselves. I leave £50 floating in the bank now, for those moments when the mobile bill comes in higher than expected, for example. And I don't make my overpayments until the end of the month when I'm 100% sure I can afford them.

I've just changed our E.on direct debit to the 28th, instead of the first, only now, I'm a bit concerned that they'll take it on the 28th of Dec, even though they already had one on the 1st Dec. I'm going to have to ring them too.

I've set about changing all my other direct debits too, since the bank seem to be just taking forever. I've done 9 out of 16, so half way there. The rest I need to call up, since I can't do them online.

We want a wii fit to go with our family xmas present, but instead of just buying it and adding it on to the catalogue i've said we must wait until the cashback on it equals the cost of the wii fit. Which may or may not be January. That means my habits are a-changing =)

One thing I have done, and part of me thinks it was maybe not such a good idea, is signed up to the new Natwest First Reserve Credit Card. It's linked to a savings account and increases the return on your savings, the more you use the card. So, save the wedding money in the savings account, use the card for wedding stuff, use the savings to clear the card each month. Simple. Only I'm not sure i'm ready for such a responsibilty so soon, so I going to cut it up and throw it away until my debts are clear. I'll let you know when it arrives and I've done it. I can then order a new one once the debts are clear. It seemed a good idea at the time, and it will be, just not right now, while I'm doing so well.
