i thought i'd be able to use this because i have 2 waitrose stores nearby, Lewes and ailsham and neither of them are part of the scheme.

What Scheme might you be referring to...?
Assistance will, I'm sure, be very forthcoming but we'll need a few hints as to what you're asking about. Is it coupon acceptance when not buying the item perhaps?
