How does dry cleaning work??

Hi, I am asking this here because I know you are all incredibly knowledgeable and friendly!!!
Anyhow, last week I treated myself to having the cushion covers (seats and back) on one of my sofa's dry cleaned, I don't use dry cleaners much (okay ever) as I don't buy clothes in that category BUT I did expect my covers to come back - well - CLEAN! and instead it seems to have sort of spread the dirt evenly over the whole cushion whereas they were just a bit grimey on the fronts behind where our knees would be. I am so dissapointed as I hoped they would look really good, perhaps a bit faded maybe be but at least fresh and clean. What a waste of 30 quid!! (could have fed us for over a month on Mbaz's routine) glad I didn't have the other sofa and chair done. Any idea's why this happened - they weren't that dirty!!

I would take them back, I have just had a round bamboo seat cushion (futon typr) dry cleaned. My DD had covered it with blue felt tip pen and it came back looking like new.
Before i handed over the cushion i did ask if they couldn remove all the pen marks and they said that it would remove most if not all of them. My Dad also has his covers cleaned every few months and they always caome back looking really good.Kind Regards
